FULL DETAILS: NEW PAY RATES Alan Milburn has given an inflation-busting pay award to staff in the National Health Service as from April 1st 2002, increasing nurses' salaries by 3.6 per cent. There are also extra awards for 40,000 of the lowest-paid nursing auxiliaries, who will get increases worth up to 4.3 per cent, for nurse consultants and modern matrons, who will get up to 6.6 per cent, and trainee GPs, who will receive 19.5 per cent.
