FULL DETAILS: NEW PAY RATES An extra 7.8% for the top levels of grade E, just 3.4% for all the rest of you! By convention, we have divided the annual NHS nursing salaries shown below by 52 to arrive at weekly earnings, and we have divided weekly earnings by 37.5 to arrive at hourly rates of pay. Note that it is the post that is graded, not the nurse occupying it! Auxiliary nurses, unqualified, no training, are paid at Grade A. Health care assistants, unqualified, typically with NVQ certs, are paid at Grade B. Enrolled nurses, qualified and trained on schemes now defunct, are paid at Grade C. Registered nurses, qualified and trained, start on Grade D. Enhanced rates for specialists (Grade E and Grade F) with extra experience and/or qualifications in A&E, ITU, Theatres etc. Enhanced rates for 'in-charge' responsibilities (Grade G, Grade H and Grade I). Steps within Grades are annual increments. Geriatric and psychiatric posts would command an extra 5p to I5p per hour. 30% added for night work and Saturdays, 60% added for Sundays, 160% added for Bank Holidays.
